The Ogun State Police Command has warned residents against unlawful protests and acts capable of disrupting public peace, as it confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to recent disturbances in Sagamu.

The warning was issued during a press briefing on Tuesday, where the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.

Addressing journalists, the Command said it “will not tolerate any form of unlawful assembly, violent protest, or actions capable of disrupting public peace and order,” stressing that while citizens have the right to express grievances, such actions must remain within the bounds of the law.

The police disclosed that the warning followed an incident on April 7, 2026, when a group of commercial motorcycle riders blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, disrupting movement and public activities.

According to the statement, “their actions, though premised on grievances, were unlawful and unacceptable.”

The situation reportedly escalated as the protesters moved to other locations, including the Vehicle Inspection Office and TRACE Office in Sotubo, and later disrupted operations at the Sotubo Health Centre, affecting essential services.

Police operatives were said to have intervened swiftly to disperse the gathering, after which intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of 10 principal suspects connected to the incident. The suspects have since been charged to court.

Building on the arrests, the Command said it launched further coordinated operations under “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” targeting identified criminal flashpoints across the area.

The police revealed that the operation resulted in the arrest of 146 suspects during a joint raid carried out in the early hours of April 13, involving multiple security agencies.

“All suspects are currently undergoing screening, and those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

The Command also issued a strong warning to criminal elements, stating that it is fully prepared to confront any threat to public order.

“There will be no hiding place for individuals or groups intent on undermining public peace, as the full force of the law will be brought to bear on offenders,” the police said.

While reaffirming its commitment to intelligence-led policing, the Command urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies, advising that grievances should be channelled through lawful means.

The police also appreciated the support of local authorities and traditional rulers in Sagamu, noting that collaboration has been key to maintaining security in the area.
