Police rescue abducted toddler, arrest three in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old boy who was kidnapped in the state.
The command also arrested three suspects, and recovered most of the ransom paid by the child’s family.

This was contained in a press release issued on Friday, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, the case was reported on April 19 by a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, who said his two-year-old son, Aliyu Muhammad, was abducted in front of their home by unknown persons.

The kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦1 million. Although the money was paid, the suspects failed to release the child.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to activate all operational and intelligence assets to track down the suspects.

The police said sustained intelligence and technical efforts led to the identification of the suspects’ hideout, where three persons were arrested.

“Those in custody are Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters.”

According to the statement, the child was being held at the residence of one of the suspects, Hussaini Saminu.

He was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with his family.

Police also recovered ₦930,000, believed to be part of the ransom collected by the kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police praised the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their efforts, describing their actions as marked by professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision in ensuring the safe rescue of the child.

He also acknowledged the support and technical guidance from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which he said contributed to the success of the operation.

The CP warned that Kano State will continue to be unsafe for criminal elements.

The statement added that the Command will use all lawful means to arrest and prosecute offenders.

He further urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
