The Osun State Police Command has arrested Adebayo Isiaka Akanbi, a suspected murderer and armed robber.
A stolen motorcycle was recovered from the suspect.
A statement released by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Friday said the suspect was apprehended by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
The statement disclosed that the arrest was linked to the murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Tiramiyu Afeez, whose body was discovered earlier in February along the Ojo-Ara-Ejigbo road.
According to the statement, “The case was initially reported at ‘A’ Division, Ede, on February 23, 2026, after the deceased left home on February 21 for his routine commercial motorcycle operations but failed to return.
“Efforts made to trace his whereabouts proved abortive until information was received that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified corpse lying in a pool of blood.”
The police said the corpse was later identified by family members as that of Afeez, with preliminary findings indicating that his throat had been slit with a knife.
Following the development, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo for detailed investigation.
The statement disclosed that “through intelligence gathering and technological analysis, detectives tracked and arrested the suspect on April 18, 2026, and recovered the deceased’s Bajaj motorcycle along with two ignition keys”.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having contacted the deceased by phone and lured him to the Ara-Ejigbo axis, where he attacked and killed him before making away with the motorcycle.”
The police revealed that the suspect admitted disposing of the knife used in the crime as well as the victim’s mobile phone.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, while disclosing that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation, reassured residents that the command remained committed to tackling criminal activities.
He also stated that Osun would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.
