A planned fight among young people turned deadly in Winston-Salem in North Carolina on Monday morning, with multiple people firing at each other.
The mass shooting took place at the Leinbach Park near the Jefferson Middle School at around 10 am, Winston-Salem police said in a social media post. The number of victims remained unclear, while the police said the suspects were still at large.
The shooting did not take place at the school, which was kept on lockdown until the site was secured, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said. Police further said that several people, including the victims and suspects, had been identified and located, but efforts remained underway to account for everyone involved in the incident. Some of those involved were juveniles.
