The All Progressives Congress candidate in the August 15 Osun governorship poll, Bola Oyebamiji, has assured members of the Arewa community and other non-indigenes living in the state of inclusion and participation in governance if elected governor.
Oyebamiji made this known at a public engagement meeting with members of the Arewa community in Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area of the state, on Sunday.
He was represented at the meeting by a former Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to the Osun State Governor, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Oyebamiji said his administration would adopt a structured approach to fostering inclusive and participatory governance that accommodates all segments of society.
“This framework will bridge the gap between government and the grassroots, ensuring that public policies reflect the direct needs and input of the people.
“The administration will bring all of them on board and make them participate actively in governance. That will give all ethnic groups a sense of belonging,” he said.
He further assured all that residents would be actively involved in both policy formulation and implementation.
He stated that his administration would sustain people-oriented programmes of the progressives by engaging diverse groups, including farmers’ associations, trade unions, artisans and non-indigene communities, making them key stakeholders in governance.
Responding, the Seriki of the Arewa Community in Obokun Local Government Area, Alhaji Ayuba Abubakar, commended the APC-led administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for its consistent engagement with the community.
He also said the Oyetola administration provided support and resolved communal disputes through the Office of Civic Engagement, thereby preventing potential crises.
“Since then, we have been living in peace and harmony. Through the efforts of Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, land was acquired for our community, and the government has consistently provided palliatives.
“We appeal to Oyebamiji to sustain the relationship established by the previous APC-led administration. We pledge our unalloyed support and will demonstrate it at the polls.
“We will support and vote for the APC in the forthcoming governorship election. Bola Oyebamiji is our candidate,” he said.
He called for the creation of a more business-friendly environment to boost economic growth and development in the state.
The NGGOSSIPS reports that political parties fielding candidates in the August 15 governorship poll have intensified engagement with residents of the state.
The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Oyebamiji, and a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr Najeem Salaam, have, however, emerged as major contenders for the Osun governorship.
