NNPC Limited has issued a public notice cautioning Nigerians against what it described as fraudulent claims suggesting the company is selling scrap materials and equipment from its refineries.
In a statement released by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the national oil company said it had become aware of misleading information circulating among individuals and private firms regarding the purported sale of refinery components and scrap metals.
The company categorically denied the claims, stating that it has not initiated any process for the disposal of such assets. According to the statement, NNPC Limited has neither issued requests for bids nor approved any tenders or expressions of interest related to the sale of refinery materials or equipment.

NNPC further disclosed that reports had emerged of individuals falsely posing as its representatives or agents, allegedly offering to facilitate the sale of “scrap metals” and other refinery components. The company stressed that such persons are unauthorised and are attempting to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
It advised individuals, corporate organisations, and stakeholders in the energy sector to disregard any such solicitations and exercise caution when approached with offers linked to the company.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” the statement said.
The company noted that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow due process and be publicly communicated through its official channels in line with regulatory requirements.
NNPC Limited also urged members of the public to report anyone making such claims to law enforcement authorities.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the company said it remains focused on the responsible management of Nigeria’s energy assets.
