Emmanuel Bwacha, a former senator from Taraba South Senatorial District, has voiced worry about the deteriorating living circumstances in Taraba State, claiming that the degree of hardship among locals has dramatically grown.
Bwacha, who made the announcement on Thursday in Jalingo, Taraba state, while announcing his plan to run for governor of Taraba state in 2027 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that staying silent in such a situation would undoubtedly be considered complicity.
He called attention to what he called a serious scenario by pointing out that the people’s increasing economic difficulties have exacerbated hardship in many places.
“Our people’s suffering has grown, and hardship has intensified.” In these situations, keeping quiet would be considered complicity, according to Bwacha.
The former lawmaker’s comments coincide with persistent worries about the state’s governance and economic circumstances, as stakeholders continue to demand solutions to the problems facing citizens.
He stated that his previous hesitation to run again was motivated by the expectation that government would improve, but he contended that circumstances in the state have gotten worse. He pledged to restore transparency, accountability, and growth in the state.
The former member also presented a bleak image of the state’s current condition of affairs, claiming a breakdown in government characterized by a disrespect for the rule of law, budgetary recklessness, and a lack of transparency.
The state’s growing debt profile, which he said had increased from over N237 billion in 2023 to over N1 trillion, was another issue he voiced concern about.
Bwacha claimed that subsequent political instability led to the state’s deterioration, citing the late former governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai’s administration as a time when the state was making progress.
“This is not the Taraba we deserve,” he continued, criticizing what he called “failing infrastructure, an underfunded education sector, growing insecurity, and declining agricultural productivity.”
He called for unity, urging Tarabans to reject politics that divide people based on their ethnicity or religion and to cooperate to achieve common objectives.
He echoed former US President Abraham Lincoln’s statement that “a house divided against itself cannot stand” when he remarked, “Our future must not be shaped by division, but by shared responsibility.”
Bwacha called on people to join him in restoring dignity, reestablishing trust, and forging a more affluent future for the state as he explained his campaign and political and moral responsibility.
Recall that the former senator ran for governor in 2023 on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.
