The wails of one of the mums of the three children who have been reported to have died in a swimming pool located at the Esperanza Hotel in Ilazo Ward have pierced through the hearts of many people.

According to eyewitnesses, those who died were kindergarten children—two girls and one boy—estimated to be no older than six years.
Witnesses further say that the children were on their way home when they entered the area, left their bags and clothes, and then got into the hotel’s swimming pool, which has since been closed, and started swimming.

They sadly drowned in the pool and were later discovered, and then their bodies were retrieved.

Why did the deaths in Dodoma spark a debate?
When the news went viral, many people came out to heap blame on the hotel for being lax in its security, while others heaped blame on the parents of the children who were taken over by grief.
Bahati Sirikwa Sirikwa said:
“Why are you only talking about negligence on the part of the hotel and not mentioning the negligence of the parents as well? How can a five- or six-year-old child be so confident that after leaving school, to just walk straight along the road and go home?”
“So does the parent not monitor the safety of your child, even to the point of picking them up or taking them to school? Or even sending someone to pick them up? Because not everyone can afford a school bus. Are those children studying at the hotel? How many children leave school and enter people’s houses in the streets?” he asked.

No one knows where disaster will strike. The important thing is for parents to protect their children, because if they see anything interesting on the way, they will follow it without knowing it could be harmful to them.

Machakos family mourns Form 3 daughter
A family demanded answers following the death of a close relative, who died under unclear circumstances.
The family of Consolata Nduku expressed dissatisfaction with the information they were given surrounding her death, arguing that it contradicted the account given by the school administration.
The Machakos school narrated that they did their best to save her life, but, unfortunately, she passed away.
