A business executive and philanthropist, Remi Odunsi, has declared her intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Odunsi’s media aide, Gbemiga Jacobs, disclosed this in a statement shared with our correspondent on Monday.

Jacobs said the aspirant would focus on youth employment, small business growth, and access to basic services if elected.

The statement read, “Remi Odunsi nee Oluwalogbon has thrown her hat into the ring to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency, Lagos.”

Odunsi, a graduate of Management and Accounting from the University of Ife, is also a certified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, with additional executive training from Lagos Business School, Harvard, and EDHEC.

The statement described her as an entrepreneur with interests across multiple sectors, noting that she currently serves as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Eridan Group, while also holding non-executive roles in other organisations.

Beyond her corporate background, the statement highlighted her involvement in community development initiatives, including skills acquisition programmes and support schemes for small-scale traders.

According to the statement, more than 4,000 beneficiaries across Ketu, Ikeja, and Epe participated in her empowerment programmes in 2023, while a separate initiative in partnership with a financial institution in 2024 focused on training and providing grants to market women.

It added that her interventions also covered water access projects, school support, and periodic food distribution to vulnerable households in parts of Lagos and neighbouring states.

Explaining her decision to seek elective office, Odunsi said her ambition was to expand the reach of her interventions and influence policymaking at the national level.

“I have been doing this work for years without holding public office. Imagine what becomes possible when someone with a genuine passion for service and a heart for the people is elected into the National Assembly.

“If we are to transform lives at scale in Kosofe Federal Constituency, we must have a seat at the table, particularly at the National Assembly, where laws are made and policies are shaped. This is why I am in the race for the House of Representatives,” she said.

She outlined a seven-point legislative agenda, with a strong focus on economic empowerment and social development.

Odunsi said she would prioritise the establishment of two digital skills and enterprise centres aimed at training about 10,000 young people, as well as sponsor legislation to improve access to finance for women-owned businesses.

She added, “We must deliberately invest in our young people and small businesses. Skills development, access to capital, and enabling policies are critical if we are serious about reducing unemployment and growing local economies.

The media aide said the aspirant plans to support the formalisation of at least 3,000 micro, small and medium enterprises, linking them to credit facilities and digital commerce platforms so they can scale sustainably.”

The aspirant also pledged to support improved healthcare access, particularly for women and children, alongside initiatives aimed at strengthening food security for households.

On infrastructure, she said attention would be given to federal investments in major markets within the constituency to improve commercial activities.

“Kosofe has the people, the commercial energy, and the geographic position to be something remarkable. What it has needed is representation that matches its potential,” she said.

“I am a woman you can trust. Kosofe’s best chapter has not been written yet. I am asking for the opportunity to help write it.”

Nigeria’s next general elections, scheduled for February 2027, will mark another major democratic transition in Africa’s largest democracy. The polls are expected to cover the election of the President, members of the National Assembly, state governors, and state Houses of Assembly.
