A cloud of grief and shock has engulfed a village in Ikolomani, Kakamega county, after a 43-year-old man allegedly killed his three-year-old daughter and left two others seriously injured.

The man, identified as Nathan Shimenga, reportedly attacked the children following a domestic dispute with his estranged wife.
He is said to have used a machete to kill his daughter and seriously injure his four-year-old twins, who are currently in critical condition.
What happened between Kakamega man and his wife?
Speaking to the press following the incident, Nathan’s family revealed that he had been troublesome and had mistreated his wife on various occasions, until she could no longer endure the situation and returned to her parents’ home.

“He had never respected his wife since they got married. He beat her every night, and that’s why she ran away. She had left twice and returned, but this time she refused to go back,” said Halima, one of the relatives.
The suspect is said to have sent his estranged wife fare home, but she never showed up.
Nathan’s sister, Emily Atema, who also sustained injuries, narrated what transpired. She recalled the 43-year-old asking for his father-in-law’s phone number, which she gave him.
“He threw my phone on the ground after taking the contact, held both of my hands, and began attacking me with the machete. I asked what I had done wrong, but he told me to shut up before beating me,” said Atema.
His brother, Wennington Lwamba, shared that after attacking their sister, the father of three killed their pig and then went to bed.
The following morning, he led his children to the riverbank, where he allegedly committed the heinous act.

“I am in so much pain. When we found him by the riverside, he became violent and did the terrible act as we watched,” he said.
Jane Kupesi, his mother, shared her heartbreak and disappointment, noting that she had once said her son would one day kill someone.
She called on the police to fast-track investigations so he could face justice for what he did to his family.
“He once hit me with a stone. Please help us so he does not return home,” she said.
The four-year-old twins are fighting for their lives at Kakamega County Referral Hospital, while their father has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.
Police handling the case have launched investigations to establish the full circumstances of the incident and ensure justice for the family.
