According to police, a man is believed to have entered the house, locked the door from inside, and engaged in a violent altercation with his wife.
Her cries for help pierced the quiet of the night, drawing neighbours who gathered anxiously outside, desperate to intervene.
Sharing the news on social media, a family member identified as Sheila Bonzo disclosed that as tensions mounted and residents attempted to force their way in, the situation took a fatal turn.
How Huruma kids died
The man allegedly opened a gas cylinder and ignited it, triggering a fire that spread rapidly through the confined space.
Despite the efforts of neighbours to contain the blaze, it was too late for some. Two children and a 26-year-old woman died, with authorities citing suspected gas inhalation and severe burn injuries as the cause.
The man and his wife survived but sustained serious burns. They were initially rushed to MSF Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialised treatment, where they remain under care.
