A family in Nakuru county is seeking justice after they were handed a dead newborn baby just days after birth.

“The body I was shown and told was my baby looked different. My wife gave birth on Thursday at around 1pm. I visited her that night to bring water, pads, and diapers, but I was not allowed inside. We communicated through another phone, so I called her. When I asked about the baby, she said he was doing fine. When I asked why the hospital had not called me to name him, she said it would probably happen the following day,” he narrated.
Why Daniel wanted to name newborn after brother
Daniel had planned to name his son after his brother, explaining that he had lost both his parents and wanted to honour his sibling.
He said he had received photos of the baby after birth, which he claims did not match the body later shown to him at the morgue.
“When my wife gave birth, the baby had inhaled some fluids and was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She was told to check on him after 30 minutes as they monitored his condition. After half an hour, she was informed that the baby had passed away. Even the body she was shown looked bigger than expected,” Daniel said.
Nakuru family barred from seeing relative
He added that his wife has been detained at the hospital until the medical bills for both her and the baby are cleared.
Daniel described the situation as confusing and distressing as he struggles to understand what happened to his child and how to raise the funds to settle the hospital bills.

“It is a difficult and chaotic moment. I just want justice and accountability. My family came, but they were also barred from entering the hospital,” he added.
