The Federal Government (FG) has announced a major step toward modernising Nigeria’s security infrastructure with plans to digitise police stations across the country through a new connectivity initiative.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed the development after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
The initiative, tagged Project BRIDGE, is designed to connect police stations nationwide to Nigeria’s national fibre backbone, enabling seamless real-time data sharing and improved coordination among commands.
According to Tijani, the project will facilitate the deployment of advanced digital tools, including artificial intelligence systems to enhance incident response, streamline case management, and support predictive policing capabilities.
He noted that the move aligns with the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at strengthening security institutions and improving public safety outcomes across the country.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force while enhancing intelligence gathering and response time in tackling crime.
