The Armed Forces of Nigeria has intensified its anti-banditry campaign as the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, ordered troops to launch a more aggressive offensive against criminal elements threatening peace in Nigeria’s North-West.
General Oluyede issued the directive during an operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command of the Joint Task Force under Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The visit was aimed at evaluating operational readiness, addressing frontline challenges, and boosting troop morale in the ongoing efforts to restore security across the region.
Addressing troops, the CDS commended their resilience, bravery, and sacrifices, urging them to remain focused, disciplined, and relentless in eliminating bandits and terrorist elements.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” he charged.
Reassuring troops of continued military support, General Oluyede pledged improved welfare, enhanced training, and the provision of critical equipment to strengthen operations.
He also emphasized the strategic role of air power, noting that efforts are underway to boost operational capabilities through additional platforms and better coordination across military theatres.

During the visit, the chief paid a courtesy call on Governor Dauda Lawal, commending the state government’s support for military operations and appreciating residents for their cooperation. He called for sustained collaboration, particularly through timely and credible intelligence sharing to aid ongoing operations.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal praised the Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifices in tackling insecurity, expressing confidence in ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace in Zamfara and the wider North-West.
