The headquarters Guards Brigade has reported the death of Mr. Abdulsamad Jamiu, a current member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), due to a security incident in Dei-Dei, Abuja.
The incident took place in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate, when troops from the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group responded to reports of an armed robbery in progress.
Upon arrival, the soldiers faced resistance from the fleeing suspects, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
This was confirmed via a signed press release by the acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Guards Brigade, Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola on April 26, 2026.
During this operation, Jamiu was caught in the crossfire and suffered fatal injuries.
Efforts to stabilize the situation and protect local residents were ongoing at the time of the incident.
Military officials characterized the operation as a high-risk engagement conducted under rapidly evolving circumstances, as troops aimed to repel the attackers and secure the area.
