Benter Apondi Murder: Suspect’s mum visits slain SDA singer’s family to offer condolences

The family of slain Anchored in Christ Ministers Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) choir member, Rose Benter Apondi, is still mourning her tragic death.

Apondi was found dead in a forest in Kisumu County, one week after she was reported missing.

Her remains were discovered in a decomposed state, leaving her family deeply heartbroken. The 21-year-old was allegedly killed by her estranged boyfriend, Steven Coleman Okoth.

The young man, who is currently in police custody, reportedly confessed to the crime after luring Apondi out of her house on the fateful day of 5 April.

As her family continues to seek justice, the young RIAT student’s aunt, Arich Ndege, revealed that the suspect’s mother visited Apondi’s home in Uyoma.

She noted that Coleman’s mother condoled with the family and offered her heartfelt sympathies to Apondi’s parents.

“Coleman’s mother went to console Apondi’s parent at Home in Uyoma, yet someone is losing sleep looking for ways to get him released from jail. Today’s Court updates Coleman will still be in police custody for further investigation. He attended the court session virtually from the police cell. Justice for Apondi,” she wrote.

According to reports, the devastated woman allegedly said her son had been terrorising them and had previously been arrested for stealing her money.

“She cried, saying the boy had been terrorising them. Last year, he stole KSh 60,000 from his mum’s M-Pesa. She had him arrested, and his boss and his grandmother later got him released,” said Princess Dee in a post shared by Arich.

When was Apondi buried?

The 21-year-old was laid to rest at her home following a sorrowful closed-casket funeral ceremony.

There was no body viewing due to the condition in which her remains were found, with the family confirming that some body parts were missing.

Moreover, the family noted that the post-mortem results were inconclusive, leaving them with many unanswered questions about how Apondi died.

Coleman, who is in police custody, allegedly said he committed the act with the help of two other people who assisted him in luring the young woman to her gruesome death.

He also reportedly claimed he committed the act after discovering text messages between Apondi and another man.

In other news, NgGossips reported that Compassionate Family Carers, where Okoth worked as a volunteer caregiver, addressed the incident linking him to the murder.

Following the heinous incident, the organisation said that what happened to the young woman was against their values.

They reaffirmed their commitment to justice and safeguarding amid ongoing investigations into Benter’s case.
