The family of 21-year-old Benter Apondi is seeking justice after her decomposing body was found in RIAT Forest following a brutal assault.

Apondi went missing on April 5, leaving her family deeply worried after they received distressing text messages from her phone.
Her ex-boyfriend, Steven Coleman Okoth, has since been arrested as the main suspect behind her brutal killing.
Speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where her body is being preserved, Apondi’s mother, Alice Atieno, tearfully narrated how she received the devastating news of her daughter’s death.

Atieno said she had travelled to Nairobi on personal errands and had not yet spoken to her daughter when she learnt of her disappearance.

“My heart is broken. I was only told that she was nowhere to be found. I still cannot comprehend what happened to my child,” she said.
Apondi’s elder sister, Doreen Achieng’, recalled their close bond, sharing how they confided in each other and spoke every day.
Did Benter Apondi complain about relationship with Steven Coleman?
According to her, the deceased had previously expressed concerns about the relationship, saying she did not believe it was built on genuine love.

She had advised her to walk away if she no longer felt safe, never imagining that the situation would eventually cost her life.
Achieng’ said she became alarmed after receiving the disturbing text messages and immediately tried to call her, but her calls went unanswered.
In the messages, Apondi described what had happened to her, leaving her sister confused and deeply shaken. She immediately dropped everything and rushed to Apondi’s house, accompanied by her husband.
However, upon arrival, they found the door locked. They asked neighbours about her whereabouts, and they confirmed she had been at home that Sunday but had later left.

“I was troubled. She was crying in the messages, explaining what had happened to her. Earlier, she had told me her ex was threatening her life after they broke up. I told her I didn’t think he would harm her, to me, those were empty threats,” said the grieving sister.
Apondi’s family described her as a soft-spoken young woman who was kind-hearted and always tried to do right by others.
Did Steven Coleman Okoth confess to killing Apondi?
In related news, NgGossips reported that Okoth allegedly narrated how he lured Apondi out of her house to her death.
He reportedly told police that he had two accomplices who lied to the young woman, telling her they were taking her to a man who would offer her an industrial attachment.
The murder suspect allegedly shared the information after a week of interrogation and led them to where he committed the heinous act.
