The Managing Director, National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, N-HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, has donated N10 million and assorted food items to victims of recent bandits’ attacks in Kebbi.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the attacks affected Kawara, Binuwa, Kalkami, Dabe, Kasoshi, Kafar Giwa, and Sa Madubi communities in Shanga Local Government Area, leaving several persons dead and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

Mr Sadiq-Yelwa announced the donation on Monday during a condolence visit to Shanga LGA, where he sympathised with Gov. Nasir Idris and the people of the state over the incident.

He described the attacks as catastrophic and condemnable, saying they were aimed at disrupting peace and destroying the livelihoods of innocent residents.

“We condemn this act of cowardice by criminal elements whose intention is to destabilise communities and deprive citizens of their means of livelihood,” he said.

Mr Sadiq-Yelwa said the commission considered it necessary to provide immediate support to cushion the impact of the attacks on affected communities.

“As part of our modest intervention, we are donating N10 million in cash, 100 bags of 50kg rice, and 100 bags of assorted grains, in addition to other essential relief materials, to support displaced persons,” he said.

According to him, the items also included cooking oil, seasoning, detergents, soap, blankets, and mats.

Mr Sadiq-Yelwa commended the government for its response to insecurity and expressed confidence in Gov. Idris’ commitment to restoring peace in the affected areas.

Responding, Gov. Idris, represented by the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Garba Salisu-Takware, thanked N-HYPPADEC for the timely intervention.

He assured that the cash donation and relief materials would be distributed promptly to the affected victims.

Mr Salisu-Takware said the state government had already put measures in place to cater for displaced persons, while intensifying efforts to strengthen security across the state.

NAN reports that the MD also visited the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, to condole with him over the incident.

The emir commended the commission for its support and solidarity with the victims at a difficult time.
