At least 10 people were injured after tornadoes hit northern Oklahoma on Thursday, KOCO News, an affiliate of ABC News, reported late Thursday evening.
Emergency crews are conducting search-and-rescue operations after a tornado caused significant damage at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma.
The full extent of the damage will not be known until Friday, KOCO said, noting that the neighborhood, “Gray Ridge on the south side of Enid, has been leveled.”
Hundreds of houses and vehicles have been destroyed in the tornado. No death toll has yet been reported.
Enid Mayor David Mason told KOCO that Vance Air Force Base sustained minor damage, and Garfield County Sheriff Cory Rink added that officials had told him no one on the base had been injured.
“Please join me in praying for the Enid community, which has been severely impacted by tonight’s tornado,” Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt wrote in a Friday morning post to X/Twitter. “I have spoken with Enid’s local leaders and will continue working with them as they assess the damage and identify needs.”
“As storms continue to move across Oklahoma tonight, I urge everyone to stay weather aware, follow local warnings, and take shelter immediately when directed.”
