Access Bank Plc has once again asserted its dominance in the Nigerian corporate landscape, securing the title of Nigeria’s most valuable brand for the fifth consecutive year.
The announcement came as part of the Brand Finance Nigeria 25 2026 report, which evaluates the nation’s premier brands based on brand value, strength, and overall business performance.
According to the report, Access Bank’s brand value reached an impressive N773.2bn.
Despite facing significant macroeconomic pressures and market volatility, the institution maintained its number-one ranking, a feat attributed to its robust long-term strategy and aggressive regional expansion.
The report noted a marginal year-on-year decline in brand value but clarified that this was the result of a “deliberate strategic shift”. The bank has pivoted its focus toward long-term growth and international scale, often prioritising these over immediate domestic margins.
This transition has seen Access Bank evolve from a local market leader into a cross-continental financial infrastructure provider. By leveraging its African operations, the bank successfully offset dips in Nigerian income, positioning itself as a vital gateway between the continent and global financial markets.
Beyond financial valuation, the bank’s internal brand health showed significant improvement. Access Bank rose to third place nationally on the Brand Strength Index, scoring 88.7/100 and retaining an elite AAA brand rating. Analysts link this surge to better brand coherence following the consolidation of several high-profile international acquisitions.
The findings emphasise a shift in the Nigerian business climate, moving away from mere survival toward enduring resilience.
Commenting on the development, the Managing Director, Brand Finance Nigeria, Babatunde Odumeru, said, “This report highlights a key trend: trust is now the fundamental driver of business growth. With consumers now more cautious about how they spend their money, brands must offer a reliability premium in order to build trust, which is an essential foundation for customer loyalty.”
Odumeru further underscored the direct link between a brand’s reputation and its bottom line, “The brands that have achieved this have not just stood out but have consistently grown their brand value and maintained their lead in the Brand Finance rankings. If you are reliable, you are valuable.”
Commenting on the broader economic landscape, Odumeru noted that the banking and manufacturing sectors continue to be the engines of Nigeria’s brand equity, “The rankings were dominated by the banking and manufacturing sectors, driven by home-grown resilience and digital savviness required to convert engagement into customer loyalty. This dynamic reflects a collaborative strength between the two sectors that continues to underpin Nigeria’s overall brand value,” he added.
