The Chief Executive Officer and founder of Bon Bread, Maria Umeagwukadilo, has reacted to the viral TikTok video that questioned the safety of her company’s bread products, particularly claims that a loaf could last for nearly two months.

The controversy, which began after a social media user shared a video alleging unusually long freshness, has sparked widespread debate and concern among consumers, with many linking the claim to Bon Bread.

Speaking in a now-viral video, the CEO expressed disappointment over the impact the clip has had on her brand, noting that it undermines years of dedication and hard work.

“It pains me that after putting in 20 years of hard work, somebody on social media with a two-minute clip will cause so much damage.”

She explained that she founded the company in 2006 during a challenging period in her life and has since grown it into a business that employs dozens of workers and supports many more indirectly.

Umeagwukadilo maintained that her company operates under strict food safety regulations and adheres to standards set by NAFDAC, emphasizing that production is based on daily orders to ensure freshness.

“From day one I have always ensured that my products meet the standard recommended by regulatory bodies. We produce bread daily based on orders,” she said.

She revealed that she initially ignored the viral video but was later forced to respond after receiving several calls from distributors and business partners raising concerns about the allegations.

According to her, attempts to reach the content creator behind the video for clarification proved unsuccessful.

“I told her let’s go and test the bread she is talking about, but she is not taking calls.”

The CEO challenged the claims and urged members of the public to verify the product themselves rather than rely on social media narratives, adding that she plans to release regulatory documents and laboratory test results to support her position.

“We will get to the end of this matter and we will see the truth from the lies.”
