Impeachment rumour: Igbo community rallies behind Makinde, pledges support

The Igbo community in Ibadan, Saturday, rallied support and pledged their solidarity to Governor Seyi Makinde in the wake of recent impeachment rumour against the governor.

Addressing newsmen at the state secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, under the umbrella of the Association of Igbo Residents in Ibadan, the group described the recent rumour of an impeachment plot as a distraction.

It pledged its members continued loyalty and political support to the governor.
Speaking on behalf of the Igbo leaders, Ndo Ofurunna, urged political actors to avoid making statements capable of creating unnecessary tension in the state.

‎According to Ofurunna, members of the Igbo communities in Ibadan, Oyo town, Ogbomoso, Iseyin and other parts of the state have continued to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere under the current administration.

He commended Makinde for maintaining peace, strengthening security, expanding infrastructure, improving road networks, and creating an enabling environment for businesses and residents in Oyo State.

The spokesman maintained that all Igbo indigenes residing across the state would continue to support the transformational leadership, inclusive governance, and remarkable infrastructural development being anchored by the governor.

Mr Ofurunna said that Governor Makinde has demonstrated fairness, competence, and political maturity in the management of the state.

He that the governor’s achievements have endeared him to many non-indigenes residing in Oyo State.

“As a community that lives and do business here, we appreciate Makinde’s leadership and we are ready to support whoever he endorses to continue his good works.

“Because we believe that continuity of purposeful governance remains important for the growth and stability of the state,” he declared.

‎The group further urged leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to promote unity and avoid actions or utterances that could create divisions ahead of future elections.

‎Among the Igbo leaders present at the news briefing were Rita Orji, former member, House of Representatives (Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos State), who facilitated the event.

Others were John Idoko, Ogochukwu Ogbonna, Clement Ukachi, Valentine Chukwu and Mr Kingly Ike.
