A woman from Bugabo in Bukoba District, Tanzania, has returned home to her husband after disappearing for several months.

Anastela Benza left her ailing husband, Denis Rhabura, after their house collapsed, leaving him in distress and in a dilapidated condition.
Speaking during an interview with Ayo TV, Denis said he had been strong and healthy for many years until he fell ill and suffered a stroke in 2014.
He shared that his wife took care of him over the years until an earthquake destroyed their house. The couple lived in very difficult conditions in the damaged house until it eventually collapsed.

Why did Anastela abandon her ailing husband?
His wife, Anastela, said she could no longer cope and eventually left him on her own.
She explained that when they got married, life was not smooth, but was manageable. However, after living together for 10 years, her husband fell ill, and their situation took a turn for the worse.
She recalled the frequent hospital visits and the struggle to raise money for his medical bills.
The burden of being the sole provider and caregiver became overwhelming and began to affect her mental health, leading to her decision to walk away.
“Life became very hard. I kept struggling as things worsened. The children were in school, and I was the only one fighting alone; I was both father and mother. Life became extremely difficult, and I wondered what to do. That is when I decided to leave my husband and the family,” she said.

Moreover, when their house collapsed, she used her savings and a small contribution from neighbours to carry out some repairs, but it was not enough.

Who built Denis and Anastela a house?
When Denis’s story was aired, it touched the heart of a good Samaritan, a Tanzanian woman based in the UK, who offered to help the couple.
Haj Zahra sent money and arranged for a brand-new house to be built for the ailing man, hoping to restore the family’s dignity and stability.
On the day she handed over the house, she encouraged Anastela to return home, promising continued support for the family.
Fortunately, her efforts bore fruit, as the mother of two returned to her husband and children.
Denis expressed joy at having his wife back home, noting that neighbours had once given up on him, believing he would not survive.
“I am very relieved because my wife came back. I used to eat one meal a day, but now I eat two meals. I thank God. He has done many things for me. People in the village were shocked because they thought I would die,” he said.

The couple has since reconciled, with Denis expressing happiness at being reunited with his wife.
