The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two security guards for allegedly hacking a traveller, identified simply as Promise, to death in the Ibafo area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Babaseyi noted that the suspects, Isikilu Dauda and Rasaki Abbas, were apprehended by detectives attached to the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters following the incident, which occurred at about 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2026.
Oluseyi noted that the arrest followed a credible tip-off from a concerned resident, prompting the police to visit the scene and rush the victim to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
He noted that Promise had arrived late in the area the previous night before he was allegedly attacked by the suspects.
Babaseyi said, “The incident occurred on Thursday, 10th April 2026, at about 0700hrs, following a credible tip-off from a concerned citizen. Detectives promptly mobilised to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed him to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
“While en route to the hospital, the victim identified himself and stated that he had been attacked and macheted by security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night.
“He was subsequently confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.”
The police spokesperson noted that the deceased’s body was later documented and deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for a post-mortem examination.
Oluseyi further disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed a trail of blood linking the scene to one of the suspects, leading to his arrest, while continued efforts led to the apprehension of the second suspect.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices,” he added.
He stressed that the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident, assuring that all those involved would be brought to justice.
He warned against unlawful violence, reiterating the command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial acts.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through their emergency lines.
NGGOSSIPS Metro reported a similar incident on Monday, in which the Oyo State Police Command arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Sodiq Kayode Akorede, for allegedly killing and severing the head of a six-year-old girl, Mutiyatu Sunday, in Ibadan, the state capital.
The command had noted that the incident occurred on April 11, 2026, in Adigun Village, Olorunda Ogunsola area of the state, following an intelligence report about the suspects being found in possession of the severed head of the victim.
