Troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the early hours of Wednesday neutralised over 30 insurgents and destroyed several boats in an offensive at the Lake Chad waterways around the Kaniram Island axis in Borno State.
The operation, conducted between Tuesday night and Wednesday, was confirmed in a statement by the Media Information Officer of the North-East Joint Task Force, Lt Col Sani Uba.
In a related operation at Sowolwolo in the Sambisa Forest axis, additional precision-guided strikes destroyed three gun trucks and neutralised more terrorists.
Also, troops of Operation Enduring Peace neutralised two armed gunmen in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State during a coordinated ambush on Tuesday evening.
However, suspected bandits killed two persons in a night attack on the Kuru community in Jos South Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.
The troops continued their offensives against the terrorists and bandits across the country.
In a statement by Lt Col Uba on Wednesday, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai maintained persistent surveillance and detected the concentration of over 30 terrorist boats and associated elements coordinating movement and resupply activities.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in sustained offensive operations conducted on the night of 21/22 April 2026, delivered devastating precision air strikes that dismantled ISWAP terrorist logistics networks along the Lake Chad waterways around the Kaniram Island axis in Northern Borno State.
“Acting on credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) inputs, OPHK air assets established a persistent overhead presence and confirmed the concentration of over 30 terrorist boats and associated terrorist elements coordinating movement and resupply activities,” the statement read.
He added that precision strikes destroyed several boats and disrupted the logistics hub, significantly degrading the terrorists’ mobility.
“Real-time ISR enabled rapid follow-on strikes on fleeing and regrouping elements within nearby vegetation, leading to the neutralisation of over 30 terrorists,” he said.
In a related operation at Sowolwolo in the Sambisa Forest axis, Uba said battle damage assessment confirmed significant enemy losses, including evidence of mass burial activities by ISWAP elements in the Mallam Fatori axis.
Speaking on the Plateau offensive, the Media Information Officer, Capt Chinonso Oteh, said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals.
“In a targeted strike against criminal elements operating within the Marit general area of Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace have successfully executed a coordinated ambush on the evening of Tuesday, 21 April 2026.
“The operation, which took place at approximately 7:49 p.m. near Doruwa Babuje, was launched following the receipt of credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed gunmen known for terrorising local communities through violent attacks, sexual assault and armed robbery.
“Upon sighting the criminals, troops successfully ambushed the marauders. In the ensuing firefight, two armed gunmen were neutralised, while several others fled into the surrounding bushes under the cover of darkness,” the statement said.
Weapons, including a locally fabricated rifle, ammunition, and other items, were recovered.
According to the statement, “During a search of the immediate area, troops recovered one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife and a mobile phone.”
However, suspected bandits killed two persons in the Kuru community in Jos South LGA.
A community representative, Rwang Tengwong, described the attack as “one too many,” urging security agencies to intensify protection of rural communities.
A resident, Dangwang Elisha, also called for improved security deployment and intelligence to prevent further attacks.
Security authorities say operations would continue across affected areas to sustain pressure on criminal elements and prevent regrouping.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, for additional information were unsuccessful.
