The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a police officer, CSP Silas Kundi, and his son, Enoch Silas, in Kaduna State, during which a ransom of N24m was collected.
According to the police, despite collecting the ransom, the kidnappers held on to the police officer and his son.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, disclosed this on Tuesday.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on the operational activities of the Special Tactical Squad of the Force Intelligence Department, the force spokesperson said police intervention later led to the rescue of Enoch Silas unharmed, while efforts are ongoing to rescue CSP Silas Kundi.
He identified the suspects as Yusuf Shuaibu (23), Abubakar Bature (19), Yau Murtala, Bello Suleiman (19), Abdul Kareem Nuhu (36), and Ahmed Musa (28), who were arrested on April 3, 2026, in Kaduna State by operatives acting on actionable digital intelligence.
Placid said, “Operatives of the FID-STS, acting on actionable digital intelligence, arrested Yusuf Shuaibu, Abubakar Bature, Yau Murtala, Bello Suleiman, Abdul Kareem Nuhu, and Ahmed Musa on April 3, 2026, in Kaduna State.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Yusuf Shuaibu is a kidnapping kingpin with links to a notorious syndicate operating under a gang leader known as Kachalla Gwanna, with camps located in Rijana Forest, Kaduna State.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in the abduction of CSP Silas Kundi and his son, Enoch Silas, from Kujama Town in October 2025, during which a ransom of N24,000,000 and other items was collected.
“Despite this, the victims were not released until police intervention led to the rescue of Enoch Silas unharmed, while efforts are still ongoing to rescue CSP Silas Kundi.”
He added that investigations also linked the suspects to another kidnapping incident involving Yusuf Mohammed, Aminu Mohammed, and Aisha Yusuf, during which N18 million was reportedly paid as ransom before the victims were later rescued through police operations.
“The suspects are also linked to the kidnapping of Yusuf Mohammed, Aminu Mohammed, and Aisha Yusuf, where a ransom of N18,000,000 was collected before the victims were rescued through police operations. Investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, rescue remaining victims, and recover operational weapons,” he said.
Placid added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate and recover weapons used in the operations.
In a related development, the STS also arrested a suspect linked to banditry activities in Plateau State and another four armed banditry suspects in Kaduna State, recovering firearms and ammunition during separate operations.
“Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives of the FID-STS, led by the Commander, ACP Victor Godfrey, arrested Saminu Abdullahi on March 28, 2026, in Apo, FCT, Abuja.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Saminu Abdullahi is connected to ongoing banditry attacks in Plateau State, where he confessed to providing logistical support and cover for bandit groups whenever they planned attacks on locals,” he said.
