Extremist settlers set fire to a home and two cars in the northern West Bank village of Beit Imrin late Tuesday, injuring eight people, according to Palestinian reports. The Israel Police said the next day that an investigation had been launched.
The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service said it treated one person for first-degree burns and seven other people, including an infant, for smoke inhalation as a result of the fire in the home.
Residents were able to fend off the attackers and prevent the flames from spreading, according to WAFA, the Palestinian Authority’s official news agency.
Security camera footage showed attackers in hoodies throwing flaming objects at the home, which caught fire, in two locations within about a minute of each other around 9:25 p.m., as a man yelled in Arabic.
The IDF said troops were dispatched to Beit Imrin “following a report of a house and vehicles being set on fire in the area.”
The soldiers scanned the area but did not find any suspects, the military said in response to a query.

The Israel Police’s West Bank district has launched an investigation, the IDF said, adding that it “strongly condemns events of this type and will continue to work to enforce law and order in the area.”
Earlier Tuesday, a settler reservist reportedly shot dead a 14-year-old Palestinian boy and a 32-year-old young man in the central West Bank village of al-Mughayyir.
The reservist was suspended from duty but not arrested — a step that is highly rare in cases of settler violence, which take place with near impunity on a near-daily basis.

The attacks have accelerated during the war with Iran that began on February 28 and entered a truce on April 8. During that time, the left-wing Yesh Din human rights organization recorded 378 incidents of settler violence against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank.
Eight Palestinians were shot and killed, and 200 were injured during that time, the organization said.
