Media personality Roby Ekpo has reacted to a cease-and-desist letter issued by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, following their ongoing marital dispute.
Mayowa, through her legal representatives, had demanded that Ekpo immediately stop making what she described as defamatory remarks about her, delete related content from his online platforms, publish a public apology and retraction, and pay ₦100 million in damages.
The move came after Ekpo’s appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he accused his estranged wife of infidelity, dishonesty, and financial difficulties during their marriage, which lasted over ten years.
In a formal response dated Thursday, April 23, Ekpo, through his lawyers, denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his comments were based on his personal experiences and his understanding of events.
The letter stated: “Our client maintains that any statement made by him, whether privately or on public platforms, were based on his personal experiences, understanding of events and matters he reasonably believes to be true.”
His legal team also rejected the ₦100 million compensation demand, describing it as “excessive, unfounded, and premature.”
They further stated that Ekpo is prepared to defend his position in court if necessary, adding: “Our client is prepared to join issues with your client before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
The response also suggested that parts of Mayowa’s correspondence could be used in a petition to relevant authorities in the United States, including immigration bodies.
Ekpo’s lawyers also criticized the two-day deadline given in the cease-and-desist notice, describing it as unreasonable and insufficient for a matter involving disputed facts that require proper legal consideration.
