Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has spoken about the challenges he went through during his university days and how those experiences have continued to influence his self-confidence.

In an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Bounce Radio, the Mavin Records founder disclosed that he was often teased because of his appearance while in school. He noted that the constant mockery negatively affected his self-esteem at the time.

Don Jazzy added that the experience left him with emotional effects that have lingered over the years, making him more reserved and less comfortable with public speaking.

“Girls used to call me ugly in university and no one wanted to be my girlfriend. It affected my confidence, and that’s why I’m shy and struggle to speak in public till today. It is also why I find it hard to believe when a woman tells me she truly loves me. Most of them are now rushing me now, why didn’t they love me then?” he said.

Don Jazzy explained that those early experiences still affect him today, as they make it somewhat difficult for him to completely believe or accept when people express love toward him, even with his fame and achievements in the music industry.
