— Say bureaucracy may create bottleneck for Tinubu’s re-election

AKURE — A coalition of 15 support groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has rejected a directive by the party’s State Executive Committee mandating their registration, warning that the move could hinder grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The groups argued that excessive bureaucracy could weaken efforts to secure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The directive, issued by the state chapter of the APC through its Publicity Secretary, Muyide Kayode, called on all support groups to formally register with the party to ensure coordination and unity in pursuit of shared electoral objectives.
However, in a joint statement released in Akure, the coalition maintained that its members were already “duly registered and certified” by the APC National Secretariat in Abuja and were operating in full compliance with the party’s constitution.
“Our mandate flows from the national headquarters, while our strength comes from the streets, wards, and markets of Ondo State where we mobilise daily,” the statement read.
The groups contended that a single state register could not adequately capture the reach and activities of autonomous organisations operating across riverine communities and urban centres, warning that limiting their scope could undermine campaign effectiveness.
They advocated a partnership-based approach, emphasising their readiness to align strategies with the state chapter and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
“True coordination means joint planning, shared intelligence, and logistical backing—not administrative roadblocks. Our operatives are already in the field; let us keep them there,” the coalition said.
The statement further stressed that effective synchronisation should be built on consultation rather than directives, describing the registration order as one that could breed distrust among party stakeholders.
While reaffirming their loyalty to the APC and its leadership, the groups insisted on their constitutional right to organise in support of the party’s objectives.
“Our allegiance is to the broom, to the President, and to Nigerians who believe in the Renewed Hope agenda,” they said.
The coalition warned that time spent on administrative processes could detract from voter engagement efforts, noting that expanding participation by support groups would enhance electoral success.
“With 2027 approaching, every hour spent on paperwork is an hour lost in winning voters,” the statement added.
They called on party leaders to prioritise mobilisation and urged the State Executive Committee to create an enabling environment for all groups supporting the President’s re-election bid.
“History will not count how many groups were documented; it will count how many votes were delivered,” the coalition said.
Reaffirming their commitment to the party’s success, the groups urged all APC structures—from ward to state level—to intensify mobilisation efforts.
“The State Executive Committee must not use bureaucracy to create bottlenecks or overreach its authority,” they cautioned.
They concluded that unity of purpose among multiple support groups would ensure a decisive victory for President Tinubu in Ondo State.
