The Ogun State Police Command says it is screening the 146 suspects arrested in a multi-agency raid of criminal hideouts in the Sagamu area to ascertain their individual level of involvement in the alleged crime for which they were arrested.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Oluseyi noted that the suspects were arrested following intelligence that some suspected criminals were preparing to pose a threat to the public.
He stated that, following the intelligence, a special operation was launched in collaboration with other security agencies and community leaders.
Oluseyi noted, “Operatives of the Sagamu Area Command of the Ogun State Police Command, in strong synergy with community stakeholders and sister security agencies, have proactively arrested a total of 146 suspects during a coordinated special raid operation, code-named ‘Operation Keep Sagamu Safe’, as part of deliberate measures to prevent crime and address emerging security concerns within Sagamu and its environs.’
“The intelligence-led operation, conducted in the early hours of April 13, 2026, targeted identified flashpoints within Sagamu, where suspected criminal elements had been observed to pose threats to public peace and safety.
“The operation was designed to prevent a breakdown of law and order and to reinforce public safety across the area and was jointly executed by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force alongside the military.
“Others are the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, demonstrating a unified and proactive security response framework.”
The PPRO noted that the suspects were undergoing screening to ascertain their culpability in the alleged offences, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, lauded the operatives for their professionalism.
“The suspects are currently undergoing screening to ascertain their individual levels of involvement in the reported criminal activities. Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and necessary legal action.
“CP Bode Ojajuni commends the synergy, professionalism, and operational discipline exhibited by all participating security agencies and assures residents of Ogun State of the command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led, proactive policing and sustained efforts to ensure peace, safety, and security across the state.

In the past, Sagamu has been a hotbed for criminal activities in Ogun State, especially with the prevalence of cultism.
NGGOSSIPS Metro reported in September 2023 that no fewer than 19 persons suspected to be members of different cult groups were arrested by the police command in connection with cult clashes that left eight persons dead in the Sagamu area of the state.
The police had stated that the 19 persons were arrested at different locations in the Sagamu area of the state through the combined effort of various formations of the Police Force.
