The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Pontiac Vibe vehicle and arrested three suspected members of an interstate car theft syndicate in a coordinated operation extending to Jigawa State.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the breakthrough was recorded under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as part of efforts to combat vehicle theft and other property-related crimes in the state.
The police said the case was reported on April 17, 2026 at about 7 am by a resident of Danbare Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area, who complained that her unregistered blue Pontiac Vibe had been stolen from her residence around 3 am the same day.
Following the report, operatives of the command’s Special Intervention Squad were directed to commence immediate investigation into the matter.
The statement said the operatives, through intelligence-led investigation and tactical operations, tracked and recovered the stolen vehicle from an uncompleted building in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Police also arrested three suspects believed to be connected to the theft.
They were identified as Shuaibu Abdullahi, 37, of Nasarawa Ward, Gombe State; Shuaibu Zakariya, 24, of Federal low-cost area, Bauchi State; and Abdurahman Ibrahim, 35, of Dadin-Kowa Village, Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.
“All suspects are currently in police custody and have made useful statements. The case remains under investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” the statement added.
Bakori commended the Commander and operatives of the Special Intervention Squad for what he described as their professionalism, swift response and intelligence-driven approach.
“The prompt recovery of the vehicle and arrest of the suspects outside the state shows the capacity, discipline and commitment of the command in tackling complex crimes,” he said.
The commissioner assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information, while also advising motorists to adopt preventive measures such as using steering locks, parking in secure places and promptly reporting suspicious movements.
The command also warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, stressing that the police would continue to deploy lawful means to apprehend and prosecute offenders.
