…recover two locally fabricated firearms

Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command have arrested a 60-year-old suspected gun runner, Okon William, and recovered two locally fabricated long guns from him in Ubanbat Community, Odukpani Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at about 5pm following credible intelligence on his alleged involvement in the illicit trafficking of firearms.
This development was made known in a statement issued on Monday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Subday Eitokpah and made available to Nggossips.
According to the statement, the arrest was part of ongoing efforts by the Cross River State Police Command to rid the state of illegal firearms and associated criminal activities.
“The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives acted swiftly on the tip-off and moved to the area where William was arrested.
“A thorough search on him led to the recovery of the two concealed locally made firearms.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been involved in arms trafficking and employed covert methods to evade detection.
“He reportedly provided useful information to investigators, which is now helping to unravel a wider network of illegal arms fabrication and distribution in the area,” Eitokpah stated.
He further disclosed that the suspect was currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
He added that the Command’s effort is being intensified to track down other members of the criminal syndicate and recover more illegal arms while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police through the Command’s emergency lines: 07041777060 and 07053355415.
