There is a specific kind of silence that falls over a government house when the political weather begins to shift, and right now, in the corridors of Nvosi, that silence is deafening. 

As I look at the current state of Abia politics, it is impossible to ignore the clear jitters emanating from Governor Alex Otti’s camp. The reason is simple: Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has decided to live his promise.

When a man of Kalu’s political pedigree gives his word, especially one minted in the presence of the APC leadership, the wise don’t just listen—they prepare for a seismic shift.

I stood back and watched as Kalu made a solemn commitment earlier this year in Ekoli, Ebonyi State. He didn’t mince words. He pledged to utilize every resource at his disposal—financial, intellectual, and structural—to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) reclaims Abia State in 2027.

This isn’t just standard political rhetoric; it is a declaration of intent from a man who understands the machinery of power better than perhaps anyone else in the Southeast. Kalu’s message was clear: while personal friendships like the one he shares with Otti have their place, the collective destiny of the APC and the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu take absolute precedence.

What should truly worry the current administration is the birth of “The Team.” This is not just another political pressure group; it is a historic realignment of Abia’s heavyweights. Seeing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu sitting at a table with Senator Theodore Orji and former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is a sight that many thought impossible.

These are men who have collectively held the baton of leadership in a relay race that spans decades. By uniting under the APC banner, they have effectively ended the era of “divide and rule” that often allows minority parties to slip through the cracks.

They have realized that their individual legacies are part of a continuous journey, and they are now focused on a singular goal: the total liberation of Abia from the current Labour Party structure.

One of the most factual and damning critiques Kalu has brought to the table concerns the very nature of Governor Otti’s administration—the “Executive of Nvosi.” It is an anomaly in modern governance for a state governor to shun the constitutional seat of power, the Government House in Umuahia, to run the state from a private residence in Isiala Ngwa South.

Kalu, as the Chairman of “The Team,” has already authorized a Technical Committee led by Professor ACB Agbazuere to pursue legal action to compel the Governor to move back to the center of authority. This isn’t just about a building; it is about the dignity of the office and the accessibility of the government to the people.

When Kalu served as Governor, the Government House was a hive of activity, a symbol of the state’s sovereignty. To treat it as an afterthought is to treat the people of Abia as an afterthought. The sheer scale of the Kalu’s mobilization is what makes the Otti camp so uneasy.

When Kalu hosted over six thousand executive members of his political movements recently, he wasn’t just holding a meeting; he was conducting a census of his army. The formation of the “OUR TEAM 2027” technical committee, filled with experienced bureaucrats and seasoned politicians, shows that the APC is no longer playing defense.

They are building a blueprint for a massive delivery of votes for President Tinubu and every APC candidate across the seventeen local government areas. Seeing that, Governor Otti’s aides resorted to social media attacks and verbal vituperation, but these are the classic symptoms of political jitters.

They see a united APC, backed by the “Rock of Gibraltar” that is Orji Uzor Kalu, and they realize the “Labour Party miracle” was a fleeting season. Kalu is not just making threats; he is building a coalition of the willing, merging the past, present, and future of Abia leadership into a formidable electoral machine.
