They did not hide. They did not run. They celebrated. A video has surfaced on X showing bandits in Northern Nigeria proudly displaying bundles of cash they allegedly looted from kidnapping victims. The money was neatly tied and arranged on the ground like a market display, while music played cheerfully in the background. It was a party and no one came to stop them.….......
The video has since gone viral, and the rage it sparked online is hard to put into words. Nigerians are not just angry at the bandits they are furious at a government and security system that has allowed this level of boldness to exist. Criminals in Nigeria now feel so untouchable that they post their crimes online for the world to see.
What Nigerians Are Saying
“If this happened in Ghana, the police would have already tracked and caught those people. But in Nigeria, they are out here showing money on social media. The country is really in a bad state — yet some people still argue that Nigeria is better than Ghana. Funny.”
“Just imagine. How hard is it to track these people down and make them face the law?”
“Most of our elites are involved in this mess from government officials to big corporations. Nigeria as a whole needs to be purged before any of this can end.”
“In Europe, those banknotes would be flagged by their serial numbers and the criminals would not be able to spend a single note. But in Nigeria, you can steal as much as you want and nothing gets flagged. What is even the point of serial numbers here?”
That last comment says everything. In countries with functioning financial systems, looted cash can be traced and blocked. In Nigeria, stolen money flows freely into markets, banks, and pockets with no consequences. Until that changes, bandits will keep celebrating in videos, and Nigerians will keep watching helplessly from their phones.
