The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested a pastor, Asonye Isaiah, for allegedly defiling a teenager under the guise of performing spiritual cleansing in the Old Kwarshi I area of Abuja.
NGGOSSIPS Metro learnt on Sunday from a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel, that the arrest followed a report by the victim’s guardian on Saturday.
According to Nansel, the guardian had reported that the suspect told her that her niece was possessed and required spiritual cleansing at a river.
He narrated that rather than carrying out the cleansing, the pastor allegedly took the victim to a hotel where he had carnal knowledge of her.
The statement read, “Operatives attached to Karshi Divisional Headquarters have arrested one Pastor Asonye Isaiah, 37, of Rock of Love and Adoration Ground, Old Kwarshi I, Abuja, for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl in Nasarawa State.
“The arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Division on April 18, 2026, at about 20:00 hours.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect deceived the victim’s aunt, claiming her niece was “possessed” and required cleansing at a river.
“He instead took the victim to a hotel in New Kwarshi, where he allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of her twice. He further threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.”
The PPRO added that the guardian, upon observing behavioural change in her niece, probed what was wrong, prompting the victim to narrate her experience.
“The crime came to light after the victim’s guardian observed unusual changes in her behaviour and questioned her. The victim was immediately taken for medical examination, which confirmed penile penetration.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the offence and pleaded for leniency,” Nansel added.
He concluded that the state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
“He assured that justice will be served and urged members of the public to exercise caution regarding places of worship they attend and individuals who parade themselves as clerics,” the statement concluded.
NGGOSSIPS Metro reported on Friday that a generator technician, Yusuf Adebayo, was arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
Our correspondent had learnt that the victim had gone to her aunt’s place for the holiday when Adebayo, a neighbour of the aunt, reportedly carried out the act.
