The grand finale of MTN CHAMPS Season 4 in Ibadan delivered a compelling showcase of emerging athletic talent, as schools and teams battled across four days of intense track and field competition to claim top honours.
Corona School, Agbara, set the tone in the Youth Boys’ category with a commanding performance, amassing 86 points to secure a clear victory. Their dominance was underlined by a clean sweep in the Triple Jump, where they clinched gold, silver, and bronze medals. Strong individual contributions, including Ayatullahi Kareem’s appearance in both the 100m and 200m finals, further strengthened their position. Christ Church High finished second with 28 points, while Bodija International placed third with 20 points.
In the Youth Girls’ category, Ado Girls Onitsha emerged champions with 51 points in a closely contested race. Blessing Ukoha led the charge with double gold medals in Shot Put and Discus, supported by Bright Linus and Faith John, who secured crucial podium finishes. Faith Academy Gowon followed in second place with 44 points, while Queen of Apostles settled for third with 31 points.
Ogbogbo Baptist Grammar School delivered one of the standout performances of the competition, clinching the Cadet Girls’ title with 59 points. Their success was driven by strong relay performances, particularly in the 4x100m event. Queen of Apostles and Ado Onitsha shared second place with 39 points each, with Chigozie Faith Ndokwu impressing by winning gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump.
In the Cadet Boys’ division, ISL Lagos secured victory with 55 points, powered by Jesudemilade Ojo, who claimed gold in both the 100m and 200m events and contributed to a silver medal finish in the 4x100m relay. Corona School, Agbara, placed second with 33 points, while Anwarul Islam Iseyin came third with 20 points.
The Junior category produced one of the most dramatic contests of the event, with No Sweat edging Team MTN in a tight race. No Sweat finished with 95 points, holding off Team MTN’s 85 points through consistent performances in field events. Favored Stars completed the podium with 65 points.

At the senior level, Team Customs dominated proceedings with 88 points. Highlights included Maria Thompson’s victory in the women’s 100m and a rare tie in the men’s 100m between Enoch Adegoke and Chidera Ezeakor. Eaglesight Athletics Club finished second with 79 points, followed by Benin athletes with 59 points.
MTN also rewarded outstanding performances with cash prizes for the top schools. Corona Schools, Agbara, received ₦2 million for their Youth Boys’ triumph, while Ogbogbo Baptist Grammar School earned ₦1.5 million for winning the Cadet Girls’ title. ISL Lagos secured ₦1 million for the Cadet Boys’ category, and Ado Girls Onitsha took home ₦500,000 for their Youth Girls’ victory.
The Ibadan finale capped another successful edition of MTN CHAMPS, reinforcing its role as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian athletes.
