Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P, is a Nigerian musician and former member of P-Square. He has denied that a woman was the cause of the recent rift within the Okoye family, stating that the conflict stems from long-standing internal disputes over loyalty, trust, and management of their music empire.
Mr. P refuted what he called a rising public narrative connecting women to the family’s breakdown in a series of messages posted on Wednesday using his X name, saying, “Before you drag any lady into this! Over the years, no woman has encouraged or instructed anyone to steal from the company I worked for. Quit promoting that story to further your own goals.
He argued that the problems existed before family weddings, saying, “None of us were even married 20-something years ago when this whole betrayal and stealing started! I said what I said.”
The singer, who has repeatedly spoken about distancing himself from family members over alleged betrayal, said he has chosen to prioritise his wellbeing despite public criticism.
“Yes, it’s painful. And yes, it’s my loss. But no one should keep reminding me that I was betrayed and used by my own blood for over 20 years plus,” he wrote.
He continued by saying that establishing limits became essential to his emotional well-being, saying, “Even if my parents were alive and supported this kind of betrayal, I’d still choose to step back, cut them off and protect my peace. Boundaries are necessary! Blood isn’t thicker than my peace of mind.”
“Now that I’ve uncovered the betrayal that has been going on for over 20 years plus, suddenly we’re blood?,” Mr. P added, confirming that the conflict is still unresolved and has entered the judicial sphere. No, that isn’t how it operates. We’re still in court!
The remarks coincide with a renewed focus on the long-running conflict within the Okoye family, which includes P-Square members Peter and Paul Okoye as well as their older brother, Jude Okoye. The conflict has been characterized by frequent breakups, reconciliations, and new arguments over time.
One of Africa’s most popular musical groups, P-Square first disbanded in 2017 due to disputes over creative direction, economics, and management control.
The audience was thrilled when the two got back together in 2021, but disagreements over ownership over their song archive and financial openness subsequently caused the reconciliation to fall apart.
The family quarrel has also reached the judicial arena, as Jude Okoye is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on charges of money laundering and royalties diversion, which he has refuted. The Lagos State High Court is currently hearing the case; the proceedings have been postponed until May 15, 2026.
Mr. P’s admission that he is a co-signatory to the Northside Entertainment Limited account is one of the recent court processes that have garnered notice. The continuing legal and familial battle is further complicated by this development.
