Rodri will miss Manchester City’s Premier League trip to Burnley after suffering a groin injury in their recent win over Arsenal.
The Spanish midfielder picked up the injury during Sunday’s clash, managing 88 minutes before being forced off.
The setback leaves City without their key midfield anchor at a crucial stage of the season.
Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the Ballon d’Or holder will not be available for the Burnley fixture, with uncertainty surrounding his recovery timeline.
He said: “I think for tomorrow he will not be ready.
“We’ll see for next games the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton or 12 days later for the Premier League game at Everton.”
Rodri has since undergone medical checks to assess the extent of the injury.
Concerns remain over his availability for the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, with the midfielder now in a race against time to return.
With Rodri sidelined, Guardiola is expected to rely on squad depth.
Nico Gonzalez is set to step into the holding role, having previously deputised during similar absences this season.
Guardiola backed the midfielder to deliver, highlighting his importance in recent performances.
He said: “Nico Gonzalez helped us a lot in the absence of Rodri to be where we are now.”
City now head into the Burnley clash without one of their most influential players, as attention shifts to how they manage the final stretch of the campaign.
