Ahead of next month primaries, a leading governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, platform in Lagos, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has extended consultations to leaders, stakeholders, traditional rulers and Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu in seeking support for his ambition to succeed incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on 2027.
Hamzat who shifted his consultations to the traditional rulers on Sunday, paid homage to the monarch at his Iga-Idunganran Palace, Lagos Island.
The deputy governor, who was accompanied by political heavy weights in the APC, included Senator Musliu Obanikoro, Senator Ganiyu Solomon and Rasaq Ajala and Bode Oyedele, among others was received with enthusiasm by Akiolu who offered prayers for the success of Hamzat’s political ambition, describing him as a typical “Omoluabi.”
Subsequently, the entourage visited the former Federal Commissioner for Works, during General Yakubu Gowon’s administration, Femi Okunnu, who also expressed his appreciation for the visit.
Okunu, an elder statesman and a strong proponent of Lagos indigene rights, who has vehemently argued that Lagos is not a “no-man’s-land,” highlighting its indigenous Awori and Bini history, also praised Hamzat for his humility, dedication to Lagos’ overall development.
In the same manner, Hamzat visited the current Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs). Reappointed in September 2023.
Orelope Adefulure, was also a former Commissioner and later deputy governor to Governor Babatunde Fashola in Lagos State.
She equally expressed her delight for the visit, saying, “My husband and I were so happy to receive this August visitor.
“We have confidence in your capacity. We have gone a long way in this political trajectory by which I can say unequivocally that you will never disappoint Lagosians.”
Orelope -Adefulure, also praised President Bola Tinubu for providing not only leadership, but also, steering the ship of Nigeria towards a safe haven.
“Asiwaju took bold decisions, which appeared difficult for people to bear at the beginning of his administration.But today, the narratives are changing. Infrastructural development, dogged fight against insecurity and a dedicated economic redesigning.” she said.
Orelope-Afelulire, therefore, urged party members, faithful to ensure that they play their civic responsibilities to ensure a resounding victory during the 2027 general elections.
