In a statement on Thursday, the party rejected a publication attributed to an anonymous group of “concerned and vigilant members,” insisting that no such arrangement or secret list of candidates exists within its ranks.
“The report is entirely unfounded and does not reflect the reality of our internal processes. There is no plot, no clandestine meeting, and no predetermined list of candidates,” the party stated.
The APC said the allegations were intended to create unnecessary tension within the party and mislead the public about its internal democratic procedures.
According to the statement, “These claims are designed to give a false impression of crisis within the party. They are baseless and aimed solely at causing division where none exists.”
The party also criticised individuals it accused of using anonymous platforms to advance personal political interests, urging them to follow due process.
“It is unfortunate that some individuals, unable to secure their ambitions through legitimate party structures, have resorted to misinformation and media speculation. Such actions will not distract the leadership from its commitment to due process,” it added.
The Lagos APC further reiterated that it remains committed to the provisions of the Electoral Act, the party constitution, and guidelines issued by the national leadership regarding candidate selection.
It explained that its nomination process will be guided by consensus where possible, and direct primaries where consensus is not achieved.
“Our position is clear and consistent. Where consensus cannot be reached, the party will conduct direct primaries. This process is lawful, transparent, and binding,” the statement noted.
The party also assured members and stakeholders that internal democracy remains central to its operations.
“We remain committed to a transparent and inclusive process. The voice of party members will continue to determine who emerges as candidates through established democratic procedures,” it said.
The APC urged the public to disregard what it described as politically motivated reports intended to create confusion.
“We call on our members and the general public to ignore unfounded claims and continue to support the party’s established democratic framework,” the statement added.
