Iran’s Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of undermining diplomatic efforts, alleging repeated violations of a fragile two-week ceasefire agreement amid ongoing tensions between both countries.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing on Monday, ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Washington’s actions do not reflect any genuine commitment to negotiations, despite public claims of readiness for diplomacy.
“While claiming diplomacy and readiness for negotiations, the US is carrying out behaviours that do not in any way indicate seriousness in pursuing a diplomatic process,” Baqaei said.
He cited several incidents, including an alleged US attack on an Iranian cargo vessel, increased naval pressure around Iranian maritime routes, and delays in implementing ceasefire arrangements linked to developments in Lebanon, which Tehran described as clear violations of the agreement.
The dispute comes amid heightened regional tensions following the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and broader military involvement involving the United States. The war, which escalated in early 2026, has significantly destabilised parts of the Middle East and disrupted key shipping routes.

Iran and the United States have held limited negotiations in recent weeks, but talks have failed to produce a formal agreement to end hostilities. The discussions have taken place alongside a fragile ceasefire that began on April 8, 2026.
Former US President Donald Trump reportedly directed American negotiators to travel for further talks, though Iranian authorities say no new round of negotiations has been confirmed.
“As of now, while I am at your service, we have no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made in this regard,” Baqaei stated.
Key areas of disagreement include Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium and the status of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil transit route that has faced disruptions since the conflict began.
Baqaei also dismissed suggestions that Iran would transfer enriched uranium to the United States, stating that the issue has never been part of formal discussions.
“It was never raised as an option for us,” he added.
