Chartered accountant and public affairs analyst, Olusesan Okunade, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to first address its internal challenges before focusing on the crises affecting other political parties in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.....…
Speaking during an interview on Breakfast ... Central, a programme on News Central TV, Okunade commented on the APC’s decision to postpone its presidential primaries. He noted that while the move may have been controversial, it was not necessarily wrong, as political parties are sometimes required to adjust plans in response to internal realities.
According to him, there is nothing unusual about a party identifying problems within its structure and seeking ways to resolve them, especially when done in the interest of stability and organisation.
However, he emphasised that the APC, as the ruling party, carries a heavier responsibility to demonstrate political discipline and maturity. He argued that the party’s dominance in governance across the country gives it significant structural advantages, which should ideally translate into stronger internal cohesion.
Okunade pointed out that the APC currently controls about 34 to 35 governorship positions nationwide, stressing that such influence should make internal crisis management easier compared to smaller parties.
He further questioned the moral standing of the ruling party to criticise opposition groups if it struggles to maintain order within its own ranks.
He also addressed claims of external interference in opposition parties, stating:
“If you go to ADC they will tell you that APC is after them that’s those are the people that is making their party ungovernable,” he said.
Okunade urged all political parties to strengthen internal democracy and ensure fairness in their processes, noting that credible internal systems remain essential for a stable and transparent electoral environment ahead of the 2027 polls…....…
