A Kenyan man has shared his journey working abroad and quitting his public service job to help Kenyan students access opportunities in Germany.

Cyrus Robiro said his life in Germany began 18 years ago after completing his high school education.
He travelled abroad to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Political Science in Frankfurt after learning the German language back home.
Robiro’s transition to a new country was not very difficult, as he already had a few relatives living there.

“So after that, I came here. Luckily, I had some relatives here, my aunts, who supported me when I arrived in Frankfurt. Frankfurt was my first city, my first love in Germany,” he shared.

After his bachelor’s degree, Robiro enrolled for his master’s at a place called Marburg before eventually settling into various jobs, including working in Germany’s Interior Ministry as a civil servant in immigration.
Why did Cyrus Robiro quit government job in Germany?
Years later, Robiro discovered a new purpose: helping fellow Kenyans access opportunities abroad.
He quit his job at the Interior Ministry and founded Migratunity, an organisation focused on education-based migration.
He explained that he built the organisation from his personal experience, noting that travelling to Germany through education provides a stronger pathway to employment compared to applying from home.
“We are an agency, but we see ourselves more as mentors. It is structured education migration,” he said.
Robiro explained that interested students contact them via their website, where they register. An assessment is then conducted to determine whether the student qualifies for the programme.
Successful applicants are guided through the entire process, and those who agree proceed to sign a contract.
He added that once everything is in place, Migratunity supports students throughout the process, including airport pick-up and settlement, to ensure a smooth transition.

“Then we start the application process, the visa process, and accommodation. We pick you up and make sure you are well settled. We are on the ground, unlike many others who are not,” he said.
The political scientist said they have partnered with several private universities and also assist students applying to public universities, although options are more limited and they mainly provide general guidance.
Kenyan students in Germany through Migratunity
Robiro shared that so far they have successfully enrolled 15 students since 2025, after launching in April, adding that several others are still in the pipeline.
He also revealed that in cases where a university application is unsuccessful, students are refunded as stipulated in their contract.
“We cannot guarantee success, but based on our experience, we can estimate your chances. However, we cannot promise 100%. In case something doesn’t work out, that’s why we have a contract, we refund all the money,” he said.
