The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Sanusi, has convened an emergency security meeting with area and tactical commanders, issuing a stern warning against harassment and extortion.
The meeting, held on April 17, 2026, at the FCT Police Command headquarters in Garki II, Abuja, brought together senior officers to address operational strategies, discipline, and professionalism within the command.
During the session, Sanusi said the gathering was aimed at strengthening security operations and consolidating gains recorded in crime reduction across the FCT.
He noted that while crime rates in the territory have remained relatively low, officers must not become complacent.
He urged commanders to remain vigilant and proactive, stressing that lapses in responsibility would not be tolerated.
The police commissioner also reinforced directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, insisting on strict adherence to professional standards.
He warned officers against extortion, harassment, and other forms of misconduct, adding that such behaviour undermines public trust and would attract disciplinary action.

Sanusi further directed area commanders to pass the message down to divisional police officers and rank-and-file personnel, warning that supervisors would be held accountable for the actions of their subordinates.
In a move to tighten internal discipline, the commissioner tasked the command’s X-squad unit with intensifying surveillance and enforcement against erring officers.
He said any officer found engaging in misconduct would be arrested and subjected to appropriate sanctions.
Sanusi also announced a structural overhaul of tactical operations within the command.
According to him, all tactical teams have been dissolved and merged into a newly created unit, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which will handle violent crime incidents across the FCT.
He said the restructuring is aimed at improving coordination and operational efficiency.
The police commissioner called for continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies, urging members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
He also cautioned against provoking confrontations with police officers for the purpose of recording and sharing such incidents on social media.
