The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to step up their offensive against bandits and other criminal elements in the North West, stressing that the safety of Nigeria must remain a top priority.
General Oluyede gave the directive during an operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The visit was aimed at assessing the troops’ level of preparedness, addressing operational challenges, and boosting morale as efforts continue to restore peace and security across the region.
Addressing the soldiers, the CDS commended their courage, resilience, and sacrifices in defending the country. He urged them to remain disciplined, professional, and resolute in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens is our responsibility. You must remain steadfast and pursue these criminals until they are eradicated. We must ensure Nigeria’s safety at all costs,” he stated.
He assured the troops of sustained support in welfare, training, and the provision of necessary equipment to enhance their effectiveness in the field.
General Oluyede also reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace is achieved in the North West and across the country.
He emphasised the critical role of air support in ongoing operations, noting that steps are being taken to strengthen operational capacity through additional resources and better coordination across different theatres.
During the visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Zamfara State, Mallam Dauda Lawal, thanking him for his continued support for Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the military at large.
He further praised the people of Zamfara for their cooperation and encouraged them to sustain their support, particularly by providing timely and credible intelligence.
