Pain and heartbreak have captured the family of Anita Mugweru, a mother of one, who was allegedly killed by her husband, a Kenya Defence Forces captain.

Anita’s husband turned alleged killer, is said to have stabbed her to death on Tuesday, April 14, and she was pronounced dead just a few minutes after arrival in the hospital.
As revealed by an eyewitness who was the couple’s househelp, Anita uttered painful words moments before the domestic altercation with her husband took a tragic turn.

According to the househelp, trouble started when Anita went home from work, and her husband called out to her.

“She told him to give her a few minutes to rest, but he would not have it, and that is when their argument started. Anita sent me to the shop but when I came back, they were still arguing,” she said.
Anita’s last words
According to the househelp, she heard Edwin accusing Anita of infidelity, and she also made a similar accusation.
“Anita said, ‘If you have women out there, go to them and live with them. You do not even pay rent here. I try to help you, but you do not even want to be helped. Let’s wait for Saturday so that our parents can come to resolve these issues. I have tried to leave you, but you keep following me’,” the househelp said in her verbatim account of Anita’s last words.
She said after that, silence fell in the house, with Edwin heading to the kitchen to pick up the knife that he used to allegedly kill her.

The househelp said she tried to call out Anita’s name and warn her about the knife, but by the time she did so, Edwin had already stabbed her.
The househelp noted that later, after the victim was rushed to the hospital, Edwin went to the hospital drunk.
“I told the doctor not to give him any information and to keep him there. We reported to the police and that was how he was arrested,” she said.
Usikimye condemns Anita’s murder
As reported, Usikimye has condemned the murder of Anita and urged the authorities to expedite justice to her heartbroken family.
“The family says that there was to be a meeting on 18th April to formally end this relationship. This was due to several instances of violence in this marriage, with an arrest over Easter at the Teacher’s Police Station, where the husband was subsequently released,” the statement indicated in part.
Anita’s mum also pleaded for answers, while recounting how her daughter was often threatened in the course of her marriage.
