Amid the crisis rocking the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, a faction of the party in Edo State has suspended two former governors of the state, two ex-senators and seven others for alleged insubordination, anti-party activities, and refusal to comply with the party’s lawful directives, among other offences.
DAILY POST reports that the suspended former governors are Chief John Odigie Oyegun and Osareimen Osunbor while the two suspended senators are Yisa Braimah, Edo North, and Ehigie Uzamere, Edo South.
Also suspended are Nosa Ehima, former Oredo local government chairman, Sylvester Ewanehi, a former commissioner in the state, Tony Alile, the newly elected state chairman of the party, Jafaru Sumaila, Stella Alli, Igieogbe Asemota and Christopher Ojeikere, the state publicity secretary of the party.
A statement signed by Kennedy Odion, the factional state chairman of the party, said the decision to suspend the members were taken at a meeting of the State Executive Committeen
Odion alleged that the suspended members engaged in acts of insubordination, including refusal to comply with lawful directives of the party, anti-party activities, and conduct inconsistent with ADC objectives and directives, as well as unauthorised factionalization including the creation of parallel organs or structures.
He further alleged that the actions were capable of causing disaffection, disorder, or disruption within the party structure.
The State EXCO further alleged that the suspended members participated in unauthorised groups or caucuses not recognised by the party constitution.
Odion disclosed that all affected members are barred from participating in party meetings, activities, and decision-making processes.
“They shall not represent the party in any official or unofficial capacity. They shall cease to hold themselves out as officers or agents of the party.
“Any party organ or structure is hereby directed to deny recognition and operational access to the affected members during the period of suspension.
“In compliance with Article 15(B) and the principles of natural justice, the allegations against each affected member shall be formally communicated in writing to the
The State Disciplinary Committee shall notify each member of the hearing details.
“Each member shall have the right to present a defence (oral or written), be represented by counsel, call witnesses. Proceedings shall be concluded within the constitutionally prescribed timeline.
“All affected members retain the right to appeal in accordance with Article 15(D), appeals must be filed within 14 days of receipt of this notice. Appeals shall be determined within 21 days by the appropriate higher organ of the Party.
“All Local Government Area, LGA, Ward Executives, and affiliated structures are hereby mandated to ensure strict compliance with this directive, refrain from recognising or engaging suspended members in party affairs.
“Report any breach of this directive to the State EXCO immediately. This directive takes immediate effect from the date of issuance,” Odion said.
He added that the suspension takes immediate effect.
