Fervent Edet, the 100m and 200m winner in the boy’s juniors at the just concluded MTN CHAMPS Grand Finale, has said that he is looking forward to breaking the records he set in the competition before the year ends.
Eder revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) that setting a new record after the MTN CHAMPS victory is his next target.
He said: “The record is good and can only get better.
“My mind is always positioned to improve in each competition I see myself competing in.”
Edet added that prior to the competition, he prepared rigorously as he was determined to win.
He said: “I feel so great wining this.
“I replicated what I did in Jos.
“I came fully motivated with the mindset to win and I am glad I won.
“I will score myself five out of 10 for two wins out of three legs.”
NAN reports that Bernice Onoriode delivered a standout performance in the U-17 Girls’ 100m final, storming to a new Personal Best (PB) of 11.88s.
The young sprinter displayed remarkable consistency throughout the competition, recording PBs in all three rounds.
Onoriode finished ahead of Rebecca Enilolobo, who equalled her own PB of 12.07s for Silver, while Rodia Ibrahim claimed Bronze in 12:16s.
In the Youth Boys’ 100m final, Edet powered to victory in 11:10s, having earlier dipped under 11s with a lifetime best of 10:99s in the heats.
Maleeq Odesanya placed second in 11:20s, with Boluwatife Alagbon finishing behind in 11:25s.
Similarly, Edet won in the boys’ category, securing his second gold medal in the 200m with a winning time of 22:45s.
Christian Rotimi Alfred and Kareem Ayatullahi finished in 23:05s and 23:26s to finish second and third respectively.
Jesudemilade Ojo emerged champion in the Cadet Boys’ 100m, clocking 12:48s ahead of Opeyemi Faleye and Owoeye Oluwatomiwa who finished in 12:87s and 13:13s respectively.
