He was humble about it and just removed clothes as instructed.
“The other day, he stole from me KSh 800, and I just wanted to help him, so when I passed here I saw him and returned to catch him,” said an off-camera voice.
“Many drivers are looking for him,” he said in a video.
Why did some Kenyans protest about changing clothes?
Although there was a need to ascertain that the allegations of his disguise were true, some people were unhappy about how the man was treated because he was made to strip totally and his body was exposed.
A netizen said that, granted, the suspect violated the Kenyan law and constitutional rights and should have been safely arrested and handed over to the police.
Franklin Njuki said:
“Even if someone is suspected of theft, members of the public have no legal right to punish, strip, or humiliate a suspect. That conduct amounts to criminal offences under the Penal Code (Kenya), including assault – using force or violence against the person.”

“Indecent act / public indecency – forcing someone to be without clothes in public, outraging dignity / degrading treatment – humiliating or dehumanising a person. Also, under the Constitution of Kenya 2010, every person—guilty or not—has a right to dignity, fair trial, and protection from cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment,” he added.
What should have happened is simple: the suspect should have been arrested safely, then handed over to the police.
